This page includes documents that link Hugh Brown and Mary Buie back to Scotland from where the emigrated in the 1740's. Duncan Brown Will - Duncan Brown was a brother to Hugh Brown, and they came to North Carolina from Scotland together. Duncan Brown died in Cumberland County, North Carolina in 1761, leaving his property to Daniel and Peter Brown, children of Hugh Brown by his first marriage. Several other children of Hugh Brown are mentioned in Duncan Brown's will. Alex Brown - This document is a letter written in 1792 to Neill Brown, son of Hugh Brown and Mary Buie, from his cousin Alex Brown, son of John Brown (brother of Hugh and Duncan Brown). In the letter inquiry is made of Neill Brown's half brothers (Daniel Brown and Peter Brown). Also, it appears that Alex Brown was trying to make plans to emigrate to North Carolina, but was prohibited from coming by his landlord, Archibald Campbell. Craighouse - This only part of a letter, but is written from Craighouse which is in Jura, Scotland, the original homeland to Mary Buie. No doubt the letter was from a kinsman. Mary Buey - This is a scrap of a letter address to Mary Buey (Buie) to be delivered by Murdock McCranie. Neill Brown - This is a letter written from Melford, Scotland in 1820 from Neill Brown, son of John Brown (brother of Hugh and Duncan Brown) to Neill Brown, son of Hugh Brown in Robeson County, North Carolina. In the letter, he mentions that Hugh Brown and Duncan Brown "left Clachan-Seils together"
