Duncan Brown, son of Hugh Brown and Mary Buie, was born 3 December 1771 in Bladen County ( Robeson after 1787) and died 17 June 1861 in Maury County, Tennessee. In about 1800, he married Susanna Frierson. Ministry Duncan Brown studied theology under Dr. David Caldwell in Guilford County, North Carolina and was licensed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ 5 March 1801 by the Orange Presbytery. His early ministry was in North and South Carolina. In 1802 he was ordained and installed pastor of the churches of Hopewell and Aimwell, and continued in this relation until he moved to Maury County Tennessee in 1808, following Rev. James Stephenson, taking charge of several newly found churches, and making extensive missionary tours. During his long ministerial career, Dr. Duncan Brown labored as a missionary and stated supply in Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama, where many churches enjoyed his labors and much good was accomplished for the Kingdom of God. Residence Duncan Brown grew up in Robeson County, North Carolina, and after marrying Susanna Frierson in about 1800 and ministering in North and South Carolina until 1808, he moved to Maury County, Tennessee, where he spent most of his life. Duncan Brown and Susanna Frierson are buried in the Zion Church Cemetery. Children Duncan Brown and Susanna Frierson had ten children as listed below:

Robert Frierson Brown married Elizabeth Mitchell. They had several children.
Susan Agnes Brown married W. H. Blake.
John Newton Brown married Mary Penn. Dr. John Newton Brown was a very popular physician of Maury County, Tennessee, where he practiced for many years. After the death of his father, Duncan Brown, who lived with him, he moved to West Tennessee, where he engaged in farming. He died there, leaving four children.
