| Mary Brown, daughter of Hugh Brown and Mary Buie, married John Fort and moved to Wayne County, Georgia about 1800. The documents on this page include an "Order" for land in Panter Branch in Robeson County, North Carolina in 1794. John Fort, Jr., wrote two letters, on to Hugh Brown, son of Neill Brown; and to his uncle, Neill Brown. The letters give some interesting family connections and history. One letter written on 26 Jun 1821 has an additional "letter" from "Peay", one of John Fort's slaves. Interesting questions are raised regarding the preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ not only to the white community, but also to the black community. On the back of the 16 March 1835 letter are a number of Bible references that were written by either Neill Brown or someone in his family.
